I’m Sarah as a counsellor,

For over 15 years I have helped thousands of people across the Northeast in a variety of settings which have included working in the following services: addiction, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, veteran, schools, universities, probation local community projects such as martial arts fighting academies, employment assist programmes and mainstream mental health services.

I am specially trained to provide support for people who have experienced sexual and domestic violence and abuse, identifying the need to create a safe space to help the client make sense of the past, understand the present and plan for the future.

I work fundamentally from a trauma informed approach, which acknowledges and recognises that a client could have a trauma history, and there is no one set type of trauma or one way that people respond to a traumatic event.

As a counsellor I offer a unique perspective on working with male mental health, recognising for many men poor mental health is part of daily life. The male stereotype of being strong, successful and unemotional can build pressure which eventually takes in toil on high suicide rates, addiction, relationship breakdown and maladaptive behaviours. Understanding often when men seek support, they’re often met with services that don’t feel safe, welcoming or built for them.

At SJA Counselling I aim to provide a stigma free space to break down barriers and help each and everyone of my clients explore and address their issues in a way they feel comfortable. My

goal is to help my clients feel they have a safe space to talk, and work through any issues with any support and guidance they require.
